    Physical and Mental Training

Physical Skills: by training at our SPZ you will improve your strength, flexibility and other physical skills. The coordination between muscles, muscle groups but also that between your eyes and hands for example will improve noticeably.

Mental Powers: improving your physical strength and possibilities will increase your endurance also. Mental Powers will now come within your range. You will develop audacity as a result of which you will no longer leave yourself influenced by fear, doubt or uncertainty. You now will let the conscience in yourself grow that nothing or nobody can get you off-balance mentally.

     Unarmed Self-Defense

Karate: the Japanese character for 'karate' is usually explained as: 'the empty hand'. For the SPZ this means: without taking any kind of weapon into your own hands defending yourself against all kinds of unarmed and armed attacks. This is a very important part of our trainingprogram . Full of teaching material from the Wado Ryu Style of Karate as it is practiced at Anroedh and De Herdt School of Karate in Almere, The Netherlands.

Wado Ryu Karate: all in this style of karate trained techniques characterize themselves by an extraordinarily avoiding implementation. A proof of the pure defensive aim of this karate style. Which makes this style to a particularly useful method of selfdefense. Certainly in our current time in which violence almost has become a habit.

    Knife-Fighting

Tanto Dori: within the SPZ knife-fighting techniques originate from the age-old knife-fighting as it's practiced within the Wado Ryu Style of Karate. The so-called 'tanto dori'. Of course adapted to the requirements of modern times in which attackers of only 16 years old sometimes already have 4 years of practical experience in using all kinds of knives.

Typically: striking for the SPZ-vision on knifefighting is the slightly forward bent-over fighting-stance. A stance born out of the need to keep vital parts of the body well away from any attacker.

    Stick-Fighting

Distance: stick-fighting within the SPZ forms a special skill in itself. Fighting with and/or against a stick in the practice of a street-fight, is particularly difficult. The length of this weapon forces the defender on distance and as a result of that to extremely accelerate his actions. Otherwise he will not be able to overcome the distance anymore, rendering his defensive actions useless.

Sword-techniques: the SPZ obtained it's stickfighting-techniques from the many sword-techniques that the Wado Ryu Style of Karate knows of. The most practically useful techniques have been brought together in the trainingprogram stick-fighting of the SPZ.

    Handgun Disarmament

Danger: our techniques for disarming an attacker from a handgun are based on our knife-fighting techniques. Because the theory behind controlling danger in a fire-arm is almost the same as that of the danger in a direct knife-thrust. Threat and direction are almost identical.

Range of the weapon: the fact that a fire-arm brings much danger for it's direct surroundings, makes gaining an attacker armed with this weapon extreme difficult. Not only the defender is in danger but also everyone within the range of the weapon.

    Special Tactics and Techniques

Belt and Jackets: defending yourself using your belt or jacket is a special SPZ-technique. Defending techniques with a belt, rope or jacket ask for a special insight in the bio-mechanics of the attacker. Moreover the defender needs the guts to come in at very close range of his/her attacker. Close enough to be able to use these highly specialized defensive techniques.

Lethal techniques: the SPZ knows belt-strangling techniques that even in a training are very dangerous. For this reason our special techniques have only been reserved to progressed course participants.
